Retirement Asset Gift

Retirement Asset Gift

Bobby and Jean Hurt have supported the Roan Scholar Leadership Program through blended gifts since the early days of the program. "Our financial support has varied from year to year depending on discretionary funds available and/or the success of investments, but we always did what we could." In fact, in addition to giving annually to the program, the Hurts have established a planned gift through designation of a portion of their retirement assets. Establishment of this gift ensures their support will continue when they are not here to make the annual gifts.

"We believe it's the best investment we can make in the development of promising young individuals who may need help financially toward their education. It is our feeling that if a person can get a college education in any major, he or she will have the knowledge and tools to enrich their lives and the lives of others they may touch along the way."

Bobby was a recipient of a four-year tuition scholarship through the Music Department at ETSU when he was a student and that support gave him the inspiration to "give back" to those attending ETSU in future years. "The best thing Jean and I periodically hear about is that another Roan Scholar has accomplished something unique in whatever field or endeavor they have pursued. We at least feel we contributed something of worth to another young person who made it happen for themselves."
