Bequest

Dr. Amelia Brown proudly proclaims that ETSU is "in my blood." She was a legacy when she entered ETSU in 1965, following in the footsteps of her mother and aunt, both of whom had graduated from East Tennessee Normal School in 1933 and 1929, respectively.

Dr. Brown considers herself to have been "blessed to inherit" the position of her mentor, Harryet Blackwell, in 1979. Dr. Brown completed an incredible 30 year tenure with ETSU, during which she served as a professor, Department Chair of Applied Human Sciences, Associate Dean in the College of Applied Science and Technology, and later with Transfer Articulation.

When asked why she chose a planned gift, Dr. Brown stated, "A spirit of giving back has always been a part of my life motto. There was no question about supporting ETSU, and particularly the nutrition program, with a planned gift." Through her thoughtful planning, Dr. Brown has been able to ensure a scholarship in her name will be awarded to help students. "I have been so blessed throughout my life that I want to pass this blessing on to others."

Dr. Brown states she is glad to have the resources to make such a gift and can think of no better place than the institution that has been a part of her life for so many years.
