Insurance Gift

Insurance Gift

When Dr. Henry Clay Reister, a double boarded physician in Pediatrics and Family Medicine, passed away in September of 1988, his wife, Virginia (Ginny), wanted to do something to express her sincere gratitude to the University for understanding and supporting her husband as his health declined. "I could not thank the administration enough?"

While Ginny's reason for creating a planned gift arises from the wonderful relationship and support her husband had with his colleagues at Quillen College of Medicine, Ginny's personal relationship to the University is also significant. She herself earned her Masters of Education degree from ETSU and also was on faculty. Furthermore, one of her sons, John, is an M.D. graduate of the Quillen College of Medicine.

Knowing she wanted to make a significant gift to express her thanks, Ginny's insurance representative recommended gifting an insurance policy. In 1989 Ginny purchased a policy that named ETSU as the owner and beneficiary while she continued to make the premium payments. "I did deduct the premium that I paid every year along with all my other charitable deductions." This gift allowed Ginny to honor her late husband with the promise of an endowment that will carry on his legacy forever.
